The Ideal Input File

Introduction

ResearchWiseAI (RWAI) is designed to work best early in the potential chain of tools used to analyze survey data. Our data export will export the input file but with some additional columns, allowing it to be easily followed by other tools without causing your analysis to fork. Suppose your data collection platform supports exporting a file that meets the following criteria. In that case, you can simply export as CSV or XLSX and then import it into RWAI without doing any manual work.

Data Selection

  1. All data in the file, or the selected sheet for a multi-sheet Excel file, will be uploaded, regardless of whether the column is deselected for analysis. Therefore, any redactions should take place before importing
  2. Including a response or respondent ID can be used for reconciling analysis, but generally discourage the uploading of PII such as names, email addresses, and IP addresses as they cannot be useful for analysis. However, we store all data as though it is sensitive regardless
  3. As of October 2024, we have the following limits on data file imports:
    1. A maximum of 120 columns
    2. A maximum of 10,000 rows
    3. An opened-ended text column has a limit of 1,000,000 tokens, which equates to roughly 700,000 words. Therefore, if you have 10,000 responses, the average response length limit will be around 70 words

Column Headers

  1. Column headers must be a single-row
  2. They should be informative, often the question text does best. But if the question text is “And, why?” it may be better to reword the header to put the surrounding context back in

Multiple Choice Values

  1. For multiple-choice questions, it is best to use the category labels that were shown to the respondents as opposed to any numerical coding from behind the scenes. RWAI does not accept a data map
