Pulse for Excel
Pulse for Excel lets you run AI-powered analysis on your spreadsheets without leaving Excel. From sentiment to theme generation and similarity, Pulse accelerates analysis directly where your data lives.
Requirements
- Microsoft Excel on Windows or macOS (Microsoft 365 recommended).
- Internet access for the add-in to connect to Pulse.
- A ResearchWiseAI account (new accounts receive 1,000 complimentary credits).

Install from Microsoft AppSource
You can install the add-in directly from the Office Store (AppSource). In Excel, go to Home → Add-ins, search for Pulse, and choose Add.
Alternatively, open the listing in your browser: Pulse for Excel on AppSource.

Sign in
- Open Excel and look for the Pulse button or tab.
- Click Sign in and authenticate with your ResearchWiseAI account.

Analyze your data
Select a range in your worksheet and choose the analysis you want to run:
- Sentiment — classify statements as positive, neutral, or negative.
- Theme generation — generate themes from open-ended text. Choose Fast (15 credits per theme set) for quick iteration, or Slow (30 credits per theme set) for higher quality.
- Similarity — compute pairwise similarities or compare text against themes.

Credits & pricing
Pulse uses credits to measure processing work. Typical conversions include: 1 credit = 25 sentiment statements, 200 embeddings, or 1,000,000 similarity comparisons. See Pulse pricing for full details and examples.
How Excel buttons map to credits
- Theme generation: Excel uses the Slow model and generates three theme sets → 90 credits per run.
- Theme allocation / Coding:
- Single code: refer to the Pulse Pricing practical scenarios for examples.
- Multi code: refer to the Pulse Pricing practical scenarios for examples.
- Similarity matrix: refer to the Pulse Pricing practical scenarios for examples.
- Sentiment: 1 credit per up to 25 inputs.
- Summarization: 1 credit per up to 25 inputs (same as Sentiment).
Troubleshooting
- Can’t see the add-in? Check with your administrator if your organization restricts Office add-ins, or try Home → Add-ins and search for “Pulse”.
- Sign-in issues? Make sure pop-ups are allowed and you’re logged into the correct ResearchWiseAI account.
